LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The countdown is on to the end of the year with one local group preparing for a couple of big shows to celebrate the coming year.

All month long, the La Crosse Skyrockers are raising money for their organization from donations from members of the public who fire off some fireworks each evening over Grandad Bluff.

One of the people taking part in the salutes is 94-year-old Wallace Anderson. He's a World War II veteran who served with famous actor Jimmy Stewart in combat.

The Skyrockers rely on donations as no public donations go to support the group.

Celebrating the new year is something the group has done for the past 90 years.

Besides the evening salutes, the Skyrockers plan on an early show on New Year's Eve at 6 pm and one at midnight to ring in 2020.
