La Crosse, WI (WXOW) The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will return to La Crosse June 12 and 13, 2021.
According to Bruce Mathew from the Deke Slayton Airfest, the 2021 visit coincides with the Blue Angels 75th anniversary, so the appearance has some added meaning.
The last time the Blue Angels performed in La Crosse was 2014. Organizers canceled Airfest in 2015 because of all the construction on the interstate and ramps leading to French Island.
As a result, residents may have lost track of Airfest but Mathew says his group has been busy ever since, working to secure a date for a major performance team.
When the Blue Angels arrive, they'll have new planes. The team will fly the F/A - 18E/F Super Hornet. Mathew says, "for the non-discerning eye it's a little hard to tell them apart but they have higher performance and the pilots are really excited. . ."
It could be a year until the next news conference from Airfest officials. Mathew says it will coincide with an advanced visit from a couple of Blue Angels pilots to look over the terrain. That will happen in December 2020, or January 2021.
