VIROQUA, Wis. (WXOW) - The former Vernon County Human Services director accused of misconduct in office pleaded not guilty to the charge Friday.

Pamela J. Eitland is charged with one felony count of Misconduct/Office-Act/Excess Authority.

She is accused of taking $5,200 from a county program to pay for dental work for her family.

She resigned on September 26 from her county position. The criminal complaint against her was filed the following week.

During Friday's court hearing, she waived her right to a preliminary hearing that would have had to show she committed the crime.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge and was bound over for trial.

Eitland returns to court in late February.

A conviction on the charge could mean a prison term of up to three-and-a-half years.
