Oktoberfest button competition now under way

Remaining Ad Time Ad - 00:00

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) --- Each year, Oktoberfest looks for artists in the community, hoping one will design the button for the annual festival.

This year marks the fest's 60th anniversary, so this button contest is extra special, and is now underway. The deadline for submissions is 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. Entries can be submitted by email to president@oktoberfestusa.com with "Button Design Entry" in the subject line. Participants can also mail their entries to La Crosse Festivals, Inc. P.O. Box 1716 La Crosse, WI 54602.

Co-president of La Crosse Festivals, James Brennan, says that the button is a huge part of the festival. "The button really is one of the main symbols of Oktoberfest. We have people that collect them, it gets put on all of our memorabilia for the year, all of our glassware, and really more than anything else it's probably the primary symbol of La Crosse Oktoberfest," said Brennan.

As far as requirements, all buttons must be designed on a 6 inch circle. They also must include these elements:

  • Oktoberfest USA Red Logo Banner with Blue "Das Beste!" (available on Oktoberfest website)
  • Dates of 2020 Festival: September 24-27
  • Festival Theme: "Cheers to 60 years"
  • The Text "La Crosse, Wisconsin"
  • A maple leaf
