LA FARGE, Wis. (WXOW) - A federal grant is aimed at helping four area communities potentially move businesses and infrastructure to higher ground.
The grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration goes to the Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission.
The commission will use that money in the villages of La Farge, Ontario, Readstown, and Viola on flood prevention and mitigation efforts.
Those communities have suffered from flooding several times in recent years.
The commission's director said part of the money is earmarked to study relocating businesses and infrastructure in the villages. The relocation compares to what the village of Gays Mills went through several years ago.
