Eau Claire (WQOW) - The American Red Cross continues to deal with a blood shortage, and they're hoping the success of the green and gold will prompt more Packers fans to donate.

Right now, local officials say they have just a three-day supply of type "O" blood. Kyle Kriegl, Executive Director of the Northwest Wisconsin chapter of the American Red Cross, says the weather and flu season have caused donations to drop.

"Just the week between Christmas and New Year's, we had about 500 less donor blood drives because of things like the weather," said Kriegl. "We had to cancel drives, and this is nationwide, and then also the flu. A lot of our donors, they get sick and they're not able to donate blood."

To help tackle the problem, they're offering some incentive. Anyone who donates blood or platelets is automatically entered for a chance to win a trip to the Super Bowl in Miami.

It includes two tickets to the big game, round-trip airfare, lodging, and $500 in spending money.

The deadline to donate for a chance to win is Sunday, January 19.
