Gov. Evers appoints Steiner as Crawford County DA

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. (WXOW) - Governor Tony Evers appoints a new Crawford County District Attorney.

The governor's office announced that Lukas Steiner will fill the remaining term of Tim Baxter, who retired January 3.

Baxter's term as district attorney ends next January.

“Lukas Steiner cares deeply about southwest Wisconsin and knows the area well. He is well-liked and highly respected in the area,” said Gov. Evers said in a statement. “I am confident he will be a great advocate for fair and honest criminal justice in Crawford County, and that he will serve the people well in this role.”

The governor's office said Steiner has a long history of practicing law in Crawford County, with an emphasis on criminal defense.
