Court documents: Nekoosa man admitted to hitting woman prior to her death

Nekoosa (WAOW) -- A probable cause statement says Paul Carter admitted to hitting 20-year-old Samantha Roberts before her death.

Police say they were called to the scene on Jan. 17. There, they found Roberts dead. They say Roberts has cerebral palsy and is non-verbal and confined to a wheelchair.

According to court records, the only people home at the time were Carter, Samantha's mother and Samantha's sister, who is also disabled.

Police say Samantha's mother told them she was in the bath at the time of Samantha's death and when she finished the bath she saw Samantha having a medical emergency. She died shortly after.

Samantha's mother told police that Carter was home at the time of the death. She says he later told her he had hit Samantha and pulled her hair prior to her death but didn't specify when.

Carter is being held on a $1 million bond and faces potential charges of first-degree intentional homicide.
