La Crescent, MN - (WXOW) - The music starts and it's go time for a new, young dance team in La Crescent.
Students at Crucifixion Elementary have successfully started a dance squad, complete with uniforms and pom-poms.
The team, composed of students from third through sixth grade, had their premiere performance at the annual talent show during Catholic Schools Week. For many of the dancers, it was their first opportunity to take part in organized dance routines.
"Some of the dancers have never danced before," said instructor Nicole Wiczek. "So it's been breaking things down and explaining to them in a way that they're comfortable with the movement."
Nicole runs her own school of dance and has been holding weekly practices with the girls as well as an extended Saturday session.
"The biggest reward is watching them perform. They have so much fun and the smiles are undeniable," Wiczek said.
The dance squad will perform two more times coming this Thursday. First, they are slated to be at the La Crescent girls JV basketball game. Later at 7:30 p.m. they will dance at the Aquinas varsity girls basketball game.
