LA CROSSE, WIS. (WXOW) - Saturday is Merit Badge Day for local Boy Scouts.
The annual event was hosted by Western Technical College and the Gateway Area Council.
Over 200 scouts between the ages of 11 and 17 learned life saving skills and potential hobbies.
The Merit Badge program emphasizes hands on learning in a variety of fields all designed to help a scout gain life and leadership skills.
"Scouting really gives them a chance to round out a lot of different areas so not only do youth learn about the outdoors, they learn about community service, the importance of giving back to their local community, citizenship in terms of supporting their local school neighborhood, church, sports team and a way to really learn a lot of great future skills that are critical for everybody," said Scout Executive, Joe Carlson.
