LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - While some are counting down to spring, others are counting down to a different type of season: Girl Scout cookie season!
Girl Scouts from around the region are loaded with Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Patties galore. Their cookie program begins on February, 15 and lasts until March 22. It's a short window, to say the least.
While what's in the cookie box might be quite tasty, it's what's out of the box that sets the Girl Scouts up for success down the road.
Director of Entrepreneurship for Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland Sally Egan says that this is a great opportunity for these troops. "It is a fundraiser for our council and our troops, but the fun thing about it is that it's a program for girls. This is a way for girls to be entrepreneurs," said Egan. "This is really their first business and they're learning about goal setting and money management, people skills, business ethics, and decision making. All simply through selling a box of cookies."
After paying the baker, the rest of the funds raised from the troops will stay local. It goes to things like troop outings, community service projects and life skills and outdoor programs.

**If you're a lover of the Thanks-A-Lots, this is your last chance to stock up. They'll be discontinued at the end of this season.
