February is the deadliest month for snowmobilers

Wisconsin (WQOW) - 12 people have died in snowmobile crashes this season alone, and with February being the deadliest month for snowmobilers, that number could grow.

According to the Wisconsin DNR, seven of the deaths this season involved alcohol, only four of the drivers were safety certified and one wasn't wearing a helmet.

The state averages six snowmobile deaths in February, and 16 over the season.

The DNR stresses the importance of getting safety certified, staying on marked trails and staying sober while driving a snowmobile.
