LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - When most traditionalists think of Valentine's Day, the first thing come to mind are chocolates, dinner, flowers, all something you can find in the City of La Crosse.

"What's unique about The Sweet Shop is that we make everything from scratch," Diersen said.
Diersen said The Sweet Shop transforms different ingredients into the perfect Valentine's Day gifts.
"All our heart-shaped candy boxes are filled a deluxe assortment of milk and dark chocolate," said Diersen.
Diersen said his favorite part about his job the family atmosphere. The Diersen's have owned the shop for 99 years.
Those who have satisfied their sweet tooth might want to somewhere get something savory to eat, like at the Lovechild.
Lovechild lives up to its name on Valentine's Day. Joan Ferris, Co-owner of Lovechild, started this downtown restaurant destination with her boyfriend, Jay Sparks.
Ferris believes food is love, and when couples come together to enjoy a meal, time slows down.
"You are in a bubble of love when you sit down in a dining room, and I think genuine interactions like this is what keeps the world a good place," Ferris said. "Sitting around the dinner table, sharing your day, how can that be a bad thing?"
Ferris said she and Sparks could not image living or staring at their restaurant anywhere else, its because she believes the people of La Crosse are great.
Lovechild has won many national restaurant awards.
