LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A young man uniquely proposed to his girlfriend last year, through his love of the sport of ice-fishing.

Jackson Baumgart and Rachel Lee, both teachers, have been inseparable since their first date at the Pearl Ice Cream Parlor.

"The ice cream was so good, but I did get attacked by mosquitos that day, the bugs liked my blood I guess, but Rachel did not get bit at all," said Baumgart.

Their love blossomed, and when Baumgart asked Lee to be his wife, he did it in his own special way through their shared love of the outdoors.

Baumgart proposed by lowering a champagne bottle through the ice attached to a fishing line and threw his spin on it. 'Let's make it O-Fish-ial, be my best catch ever.'

When Lee pulled out the champagne bottle, Baumgart was standing behind her with a wedding ring.

Lee said, yes!

"The first thing I thought was, why is he wearing a suit? Because all of a sudden, I turn around and he was there. I had no idea he was going to get down on one knee," said Lee.

Baumgart said their wedding is set for next summer so that they can plan for their perfect wedding.
