BARRE MILLS, Wis. (WXOW) - 2020 marks a milestone year for an area church, and they're inviting all to join in the celebration. St. John's Evangelical Lutheran in Barre Mills will commemorate 150 years on March 1.
Pastor Andrew Schultz said the congregation celebrated their first service on March 2, 1870 in a farmhouse that's still standing. They now support a congregation of about 740 people in a church just down the road from that original location.
Members and non-members alike are welcome to join in a pair of celebrations on March 1. WELS Synod President Mark Schroeder will serve as guest pastor for the services at 8 am and 10:30 am with a special presentation in between.
Pastor Schultz said the festivities will continue throughout the year. In July, the church will host an event focused on religious education. In October, another special service will celebrate mission work.
