La Crosse Police: ‘Educate and ask for voluntary compliance’ with mask order

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The La Crosse Police Department updated the public Friday on how they're planning on dealing with the statewide mask order announced Thursday by Gov. Tony Evers.

In a Facebook post Friday morning, it said they, along with the City of La Crosse feel the mask mandate "provides a common-sense safety tool for our community, and we support efforts to keep the La Crosse Community safe and healthy."

The post said that the department's efforts will focus on education and asking people to voluntarily comply.

According to the order, violations can result in a civil fine up to $200.

If that happens, the post said a referral would be made to the La Crosse County District Attorney's Office.
