LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The two Republican candidates for Wisconsin's Third Congressional District participated in a virtual debate on Wisconsin Public Radio on Friday.

Both Derrick Van Orden of Hager and Jessi Ebben of Eau Claire focused on the debate over the COVID-19 relief bill in Congress.

Ebben stressed, "Going forward with the priorities of what needs to be included if there is an additional spending bill, is that we focus on getting back to normal. One of the biggest steps that we can take as a society to get back to normal is to get back to school. The focus should then be on having the proper PPE for schools and what they need throughout the nation to open safely."

Van Orden commented on the relief bill stating, "Congress absolutely has to prioritize immediately getting America back to work safely. We as a society need to be able to leave our houses and go back to work to restart the economy. We can not continue to spend trillions and trillions of dollars that we simply do not have."

Both Ebben and Van Orden will face off in the August 11 primary.
