(WXOW) - The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction announced that over 31 million meals were distributed to students from Mid-March through August 20.
National programs like Seamless Summer Option, The School Breakfast Program, and the Summer Food Service Program distributed a combined 31,350,998 meals to Wisconsin students 18 years or younger, living in low-income areas.
School food authorities and sponsors helped distribute the meals through a drive-thru format or along school bus routes. Waivers were secured by these leaders and made available for families.
The USDA announced earlier this week that they would extend waivers for these programs until December 31, 2020.
