LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - School begins in earnest for many this week and virtually for most. That means home is once again the classroom in addition to being the office and living space.

To minimize stress, Gundersen Behavioral Health Specialist Meg Jelen said to maximize boundaries. Jelen said the key to finding a balance is first to create physical spaces that offer a peaceful learning or working environment with minimal distractions.

Outside of the physical boundaries, Jelen said schedule boundaries are key. Setting aside time to learn or work and time to play and adhering to those guides will make it easier to switch between modes.

Jelen added that parents are critical in modeling proper behavior. To ensure kids work when they should and take breaks when appropriate, parents need to do so as well.
