LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The Children's Miracle Network and Gundersen Health System are giving thanks for a donation from a supportive partner.

Through its ongoing relationship with CMN Hospitals, restaurant chain Panda Express donated about 18,000 clinical masks and nearly 2,000 respirators for Gundersen staff members earlier this summer. Infection control specialist Megan Meller said the donation amounted to about a month's supply during a critical time.

"We can use thousands of masks on a daily basis,” said Meller. “Think of all the healthcare staff, outpatient and inpatient using masks on a daily basis--even masks we're giving out to patients if they're coming in without their own."

Meller said at the time of the donation, Gundersen sometimes only had a week's supply of PPE on hand. She added that despite the recent rise in cases, the hospital is now "a well-oiled machine" with their current workflows prepared for the fall and winter season.
