LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Joey Jones and Kelly Larson graduated the "Finding HOME" program and purchased their first house after reducing their debt-income-ratio.

The Marine Credit Foundation program is free and takes between 12 and 18 months to complete.

Jones said the struggled to find a bank that would help he and Larson finance a home because they had too much debt.

Through the program they learned how to prioritize purchases.

"There is nothing that's quick," Jones said. "There's no fast fix to anything and if you're in a spot where you need assistance they're there to help. The program isn't aimed at just getting you into a house it's getting you set and ready for the rest of life so you can live in that house and enjoy it."

The program helped reduce their debt and secure a home before they get married in October.
