LA CROSSE, Wis. - (WXOW) - The man accused in the fatal shooting of a La Crosse man in 2019 had his preliminary hearing in a La Crosse County court Wednesday.

Shavonte Thompson appeared via Zoom from his current location, the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun.

According to a criminal complaint, Thompson shot Javier Hall in November of 2019.

Thompson disappeared after the shooting but was caught by authorities in January 2020 in Peoria, Illinois.

Today's proceedings included testimony from a La Crosse police investigator. According to Investigator Andy Rosenow, video evidence showed Thompson at the scene of the crime, an alley in the 900 block of Copeland Avenue. Rosenow also cited several witnesses who were with Thompson on the evening of the shooting, all saying it was Thompson who shot Hall.

Thompson's attorney entered a not guilty plea. Judge Gloria Doyle did find probable cause and scheduled a pretrial conference with the District Attorney for next week.
