Police share body cam video of ice rescue in Prairie du Chien

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN (WKOW) — Police in Prairie du Chien are showing how quickly a situation can go from bad to worse.

Officers shared body camera video Thursday of an ice rescue that happened January 15 on St. Feriole Island Slough. The Courier Press reports the 72-year-old woman was attempting to save her dog when she fell through. A passerby heard her cries for help and called 911.

Officers called to the scene tried to rescue the woman on their own, but several officers broke through the ice as well. Eventually, rescuers used special tools to bring the woman and her dog to shore.

According to the Courier Press, the woman was treated for hypothermia.
