WASHINGTON (WXOW) - Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin is praising President Joe Biden's executive action Thursday restoring full federal funding for the Wisconsin National Guard.
Members of the guard spent much of 2020 assisting with COVID-19 testing sites around the state along with filling in as poll workers during last year's elections.
500 Wisconsin troops spent the day in Washington guarding the inaugural ceremonies.
“The work of the Wisconsin National Guard has significantly strengthened our response to COVID-19 and it’s so important that President Biden is taking swift action to ensure their work can continue. This full federal funding will support Wisconsin and our work at the state and local level to take on this ongoing pandemic. This is a new day and we are grateful to have a new President and administration that is committed to working with us to protect the health of Wisconsinites and build back better than before,” said Senator Baldwin in a statement.
Major Joe Travato said guard members are only part-time soldiers who have civilian careers and families outside of their service.
