HOLMEN, Wis. (WXOW) - When Lu Pertzsch began volunteering at a nutrition site in Holmen, she provided assistance once or twice a week.
The pandemic changed the way meals are provided to seniors. Most of them, about 90 percent according to the site manager, came to the site to have a meal and socialize with friends.
The pandemic stopped that opportunity and required prepared meals for delivery.
Lu offered her help so her friend and site manager Sue Prinsen would have some help preparing deliveries.
Now, Lu is at the site Monday through Friday.
And, she looks forward to every day.
"I look forward to getting up in the morning, do my walk and come here. We laugh and joke and get our work done."
For her extraordinary efforts, Lu is the recipient of the Jefferson Award.
She says volunteering makes her heart feel good.
