LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - After a tough and unusual season, Bangor fans were excited to be able to be in attendance for the WIAA Girls State Basketball Tournament at the La Crosse Center on Friday.
Brenda Freit, parent of a Bangor player, said it's a great thing for the girls.
"We usually fill the stands up very well when we are able to be in person and we've been watching obviously virtually all season. It just means so much to be in the stands so they can hear our excitement and we can be a motivation to them to play hard," said Freit.
For Maddison Gean-Pierce, it was a big deal because all her best friends were on the court.
"It just encourages them. They get really excited to see all these happy faces, part of the faces at least, to see them cheering them on. It encourages them and keeps them happy. All my best friends are playing and I'm super proud of them to make it this far," said Gean-Pierce.
Freit explained that Bangor is a very loving, warm place to be. After growing up there, she learned many families stick around and they always have each other's backs all the time.
"It doesn't matter if it's a sporting event or a family situation, whatever the case you can always count on the Bangor community to back you," said Freit.
