(WXOW) - March is National Child Life Specialist month.

Jennifer Noel of Gundersen Health System serves as the supervisor of child life specialists described the role as a partner to various medical teams who works with children and teens to create a positive medical experience.

Noel added that these caregivers work with children who might be afraid to step on a scale, to a child who may be undergoing surgery, to understanding a diagnosis.

"There's nothing better than seeing that look on a child's face when they realize they did something really difficult and looking over at their caregiver and seeing in their eyes how proud they are of their child," said Noel.

A child life specialist provides these patients with the tools and comfort to get through the experience.
