LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The La Crosse County Ethics Committee met Thursday to discuss recent comments on social media made by County Administrator Steve O'Malley.

He wrote a post on Facebook last month about the death of radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh. It said, "If I believed in hell, it would be the most deserving place for the likes of him. He never loved anything but hatred, racism, and disrespect."

Those comments sparked a backlash from the public and some members of the county board.

It led to Thursday's ethics review which was closed to the public because it is a personnel matter.

Following the meeting, WXOW learned that the three-member committee did reach an advisory opinion in the matter. It was forwarded to County Board Chairperson Monica Kruse. What the opinion said was not made public.

WXOW did reach out to O'Malley. He declined comment.

The county board is expected to discuss the matter at its March 18 meeting.
