SPARTA, Wis. (WXOW) - Two people are killed in a traffic crash near Sparta Monday night.
The Wisconsin State Patrol said it happened on I-90 eastbound near mile marker 26.5 at 10 p.m.
They said a disabled semi was on the right shoulder of the road when a Subaru Outback with no headlights hit the rear of the semi.
The Subaru went under the rear of the trailer and caught fire. The fire then spread to the trailer.
Both people in the vehicle were killed in the collision.
The driver of the semi, identified only as a 30-year-old man by the state patrol, was not injured.
Both lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours overnight. The state patrol said one lane was open to traffic while unloading the trailer loaded with coffee was ongoing.
Shortly after 11 a.m., the state patrol said the work was finished and both lanes of the interstate were reopened to traffic.
The names of the victims haven't been released pending notification of family.
