Sparta, WI (WXOW) — News 19 is going back to class with the first Tools for Schools Award winner of the fall semester.

Sparta Meadowview Middle School teacher Kelly Remus is this months recipient of the $750 grant from WXOW, SSE Music, Brenengen Auto, and Dependable Solutions.

Remus said she’s using the money to build a library of books that her students have helped curate themselves. It’s already making for a project that’s kid tested and community approved.

“We created a wish list and some people from the public have already started filling our wish list, which is going to make it go so much farther than it already has,” Remus said.

With a handful of bilingual students, Remus plans to include some books and magazines in Spanish to create a more inclusive classroom environment.

Each month, WXOW 19, SSE Music, Brenengen Auto and Dependable Solutions choose one teacher or classroom to receive the $750 award. To apply, click here.
