Houston, MN (WXOW) – A kindergarten class at Houston Elementary School expands their hands-on learning thanks to the Tools for Schools award.
Hannah Levenick is the latest recipient of the $750 grant from SSE Music, Brenengen Auto and Dependable Solutions. Utilizing plenty of sensory-based play in her lessons, Levenick said the money will go toward, in some cases, literally paying it forward to her students.
“They like to play with money and pretend to buy things so I’d like to purchase a cash register and some play money for them to keep playing with money and learning how to give money and get money back.”
Levenick adds she’d also like to purchase more stem-manipulative and play-kitchen equipment. It’s part of a wide variety of subjects she’s putting the money toward, including the arts.
“I want to build a puppet theater and add puppets in, so the kids can learn how to put on a show using what they have,” Levenick said. “These guys spend a lot of time playing, and they learn through their playing.”
Each month WXOW, SSE Music, Brenengen Auto and Dependable Solutions help fund projects for one teacher or classroom through the Tools for Schools award.
