The Jefferson Award idea is simple. We want to provide some recognition to someone who doesn’t seek it, but provides volunteer service to a community. The challenge is that a lot of Jefferson Winners have a hard time with that recognition. Most would rather just go about their service quietly.
This month’s winner is grateful for the award, but would continue volunteering without it. In fact, she told the person who nominated her that she did not think she should go through with the nomination. Fortunately, Verna Mae Buhr’s friend nominated her anyway.
If you know someone who’s deserving, please consider nominating them. Go to the top of our WXOW home page and click on Community, then Jefferson Awards.
