Homicide charges pending in death of La Crosse woman

La Crosse Police said that a La Crosse man is awaiting First Degree Intentional Homicide charges in the June death of a La Crosse woman.

Police said that Eric J. Sackett, 38, is in the La Crosse County Jail, where he’s been held since June 12 on an unrelated parole warrant.

He faces a court appearance Thursday on the homicide charge in the death of Erin Somvilai, also known as Erin Bushek.

She was reported missing to La Crosse Police on June 4. Two weeks later, on June 17, a fisherman found her body in Runge Hollow Lake in Vernon County.

The investigation showed that her body was weighted down with concrete blocks in an attempt to hide her body.

As their investigation proceeded, police said in a statement, the information they uncovered led them to center their efforts on a boyfriend of Erin’s, Erik Sackett.

Police said that during their interviews with him, he provided inaccurate information. Additional information found regarding Sackett "revealed circumstances and evidence that confirmed to investigators he was the suspect."

Police will give additional details on the homicide investigation this afternoon.

We will update this story as new information becomes available.
