WATCH: Patterson appears in court-charged in Closs kidnapping, two homicides

BARRON, Wis. (WXOW) – The 21-year-old Gordon man accused of kidnapping Jayme Closs and fatally shooting her parents has made his first court appearance.

Monday afternoon, Jake Thomas Patterson appeared via video conference link in a Barron County courtroom where he heard the charges against him read out for the first time.

Four charges were read out by Judge James Babler. Two counts of First Degree Intentional Homicide, Kidnapping, and Armed Burglary were filed against Patterson Monday by the Barron County District Attorney.

Court appearance on January 14, 2018 for Jake Patterson in Barron County.

Patterson has remained in the Barron County Jail since his arrest Thursday.

Barron County District Attorney Brian Wright asked the judge for $5 million cash bail. Patterson’s attorney asked for a lesser amount, but offered no further argument.

The bond request was granted by Judge Babler.

Patterson will return to court on February 6.
