LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – The next generation of hockey stars took to the ice Saturday for some friendly competition.
The Green Island Ice Arena hosted the 2019 Mite Jamboree, a tournament of sorts for area youth hockey teams.
Ten teams made up of around 300 kids took part in the event which is designed to allow kids the opportunity to further develop a love for the game.
“You practice with each other, you scrimmage against your teammates in practice, but there’s something different about playing kids from another town,” River City Youth Hockey President Ryan Sauter said.
“It just sort of changes the dynamic. It makes it an event for them and they think that they are really important today. They get to put on their jerseys, skate against other teams, and it’s just really exciting for them.”
