UPDATE (WXOW) – The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office says three people were taken to the hospital with injuries after Sunday’s highway crash.

According to their report, an SUV hauling a trailer was stopped in the right lane on Highway 16 eastbound just past the entrance to Veterans Park. The driver was in the trailer adjusting items that were coming loose.

Two vehicles were driving in that same lane; the front one turned off into the park entrance. The sheriff’s report says the second vehicle did not see the stopped SUV and trailer and did not have time to stop, hitting it while a person was still inside the trailer adjusting items.

The person inside the trailer was ejected upon impact. First responders took three people from the scene to hospitals for treatment: the person ejected, one from the SUV, and the driver of the car that hit them.

Initial reports say a car rear-ended a trailer heading into West Salem. One person was ejected from a vehicle.

All vehicles and people involved in the crash have been taken from the scene at this time. Once the debris was cleared from the road, all lanes were reopened around 2:30 p.m.
