LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO hosted the eighth annual “Take A Kid Fishing” day at Chad Erickson Park on Sunday.

The first weekend in June is always a free fishing weekend for the entire state of Wisconsin so any kids could participate. Organizers of the event provided free rods for the kids that signed up in advance.

“I love seeing the kids. They can catch the smallest fish and they think it’s the biggest thing in the world,” Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO President Tyler Tubbs said. “Something so small can create so much joy. ”

Over 50 kids signed up and spent the day casting lines and reeling fish in. The event was supposed to be held at Pettibone Parke but the flooding caused it to move to Chad Erickson Park instead.
