LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — It will soon cost visitors a bit more to stay in La Crosse hotels.
The City Council approved a one and a-half percent room tax hike, Thursday night to help pay for the La Crosse Center expansion.
The council voted 11-2 in favor of the room tax increase. The rate of the increase will be from eight percent to 9.5%.
“Our hope is that with this center expansion and the additional square footage, the other changes we’re looking at making with the sales and marketing at customer service aspect, we’re going to grow the overall amount of impact so that our local businesses will see hopefully see even more positive from the center,” Mayor Tim Kabat said.
The tax increase is one source of funding to pay the 42 million dollar cost of the Center renovation. The tax goes into effect in October.
