LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – The La Crosse Fire Department swore in two more members Friday, at the La Crosse City Hall, City Council Chambers. The two new team members, Dominick Mellick and Scott DeLong, spent the last twelve months in comprehensive training before they were able to qualify as a Firefighter.
The ceremony honored the hard work of the new members. Fire Chief Ken Gilliam, Mayor Kabat, and a few other Fire Department personnel gave remarks on the significance of the occasion and the character of the men who were being sworn in.
Their families also attended, sitting front row and helping with the presentation of the badges. Mellick and DeLong both agreed that getting to this day was not an easy task.
“It was very rigorous at first, but there’s a reason for it. We need to be ready for any and all emergencies and I truly feel confident with what’s going to be thrown at me in the field to be able to mitigate that,” Mellick said.
The training they went through will prepare them for the rest of their careers. Now that they are sworn in, they can officially apply to any area in the Fire Department.
