LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Preparations for the 4th of July holiday can include purchasing fireworks which are available in great quantity. Local law enforcement in La Crosse reminds people to be safe and remember the rules that go with fireworks.
“Basically, in the city of La Crosse, if it blows up or flies off the ground it’s illegal,” said Sgt. Tom Walsh, La Crosse Police department. “Sparklers are fine, but if you’re going to have your kids using them make sure there’s adult supervision.”
Local fireworks dealers can also assist in letting people know what the difference is between types of fireworks.
“We sell a lot of fountains and that’s one that doesn’t leave the ground,” Luke Marcou of Skyline Fireworks said. “Those are the kind that you don’t need a permit for, that anyone can legally buy and purchase.”
In La Crosse, you can be ticketed $124 for an illegal firework.
