LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Over 300 students volunteered around different parts of La Crosse as Service Saturdays return.
One group helped plant, pull weeds and water fresh produce at the Kane Street Community Garden. It is a public garden where people are welcome to pick foods like peppers, for example, or other vegetables for free.
“For people that don’t have the income to get food and everything, I feel like this would be a good place for them because they can come here and pick food for themselves,” Viterbo University student and volunteer Logan Von Der Hellen said. “Something to snack on, you know?”
There were 20 different locations around La Crosse that students spent their day working at.
