LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WXOW) – Van Lin Orchards hosted free tours for people interested in learning what goes into apple production.

Owners showed people how they pick and wash the apples, and offered a taste test session.

2019 South Dakota Snow Queen Aleah Steger was in La Crescent connecting with Applefest royalty and also taste tested apples on the tour.

“We all meet and form connections through the events that take place at the festival,” Steger said. “Then you can invite different festival [royalty] to your festival and then you just keep growing these relationships.”

Steger also said that the “First Kiss” apple was her favorite because it had a “defining” sweet taste.

The South Dakota Snow royal family has made connections with La Crescent Applefest royalty for three years.

Van Lin Orchards started as a tree nursery in 1959.
