K-9s help with Vernon County drug arrests

VIROQUA, Wis. (WXOW) – Two recent incidents involving illegal drugs in Vernon County get assists from K-9 officers.

The first case was March 8 when a deputy pulled over Amanda D. Halverson, 26, of Viroqua for a traffic stop on Highway 14 in the Town of Coon.

Vernon County’s K-9 Myk was called to the scene and alerted officers of the presence of drugs.

A search turned up methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Halverson was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony bail jumping.

The second case was March 11 north of Stoddard. A deputy pulled over a suspicious vehicle on Highway 35.

The deputy saw signs of impairment from the driver, identified as Dillon J. Hale, 30, of Winona. A K-9 from the City of La Crosse was brought to the scene. The K-9 indicated illegal drugs were present.

A search found methamphetamine and paraphernalia on Hale. Authorities later learned Hale had a suspended license and a felony warrant for a probation violation.

In both cases, charges are pending in Vernon County Circuit Court.
