La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – As tax time approaches, Coulee Region Tax Assistance gives low-to-middle-income earners in the area an opportunity to get their taxes done with live, professional help — free of charge. Two events at Western Technical College are scheduled for late March and early April.

Kari Rayburn said the event is designed for individuals or households making less than $66,000 last year, but she encourages those near that mark to stop by. If it ends up that they’re making more than that number, the software used will simply bump them up into a paid preparation bracket. But, Rayburn added, it’s still a minimal fee for in-person tax help.

The first event is set for Saturday, March 23 from 9 am until 4 pm at the Business Education Center (405 8th St) on the Western Technical College campus in La Crosse. The second is on Saturday, April 6 at the same time and same place.

Rayburn said walk-ins are welcome. However, to guarantee an appointment, she urges those interested to call 608-784-8380 to book an appointment. The deadline to file federal income taxes is Monday, April 15.
