(WXOW) – Statistics from Gundersen Health System show it only affects between 1 to 3 percent of the population over 50, still Parkinson’s Disease can be devastating. Currently, there’s no cure.
Gundersen physician, Dr. Rachael Biemiller, said they’re continually studying the neurological condition and how it affects who it does. She said based on the severity of a case, there are a couple of different treatment options available. Though it is affecting more people under the age of 50, Biemiller said it tends to affect more people in older age brackets.
Western Technical College will host a symposium on Parkinson’s Disease coming up Saturday, April 13 from 9:15 am to 2:15 pm. Registration is $15 and includes lunch. You can reserve your place at GundersenHealth.org.
Correction: In the video, the statistic is incorrectly stated as 33% when it should be 3%. We apologize for the oversight.
