Medical Monday: Exercise to boost mood

(WXOW) – Got the Monday blues? Getting up and moving can benefit more than just your physical fitness.

On Daybreak Monday morning, Gundersen Health System exercise physiologist Brant Stevermer talked about the ways exercise can boost mood. Stevermer said it all comes down to getting your endorphins flowing, and it doesn’t have to be an extensive gym routine. A simple walk or stretching goes a long way to improving your outlook.

Stevermer added that creating a habit makes it easier to work out even when it’s tough to do so. Gundersen’s Minutes in Motion challenge can also help by encouraging people to track their activity. It’s still free to register and compete against yourself or friends and family. Simply log on to the Minutes in Motion site and log your activity.
