La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – A first-of-its-kind race encourages participants to bring out their best roar to raise money for the Myrick Park Community project. The Herd ‘Em Up 5K takes place Saturday, April 20.

Race organizers want participants to gather their “herd” and dress up in their favorite animal costume. The reason? They’re trying to corral some support to bring a native zoo to Myrick Park in addition to other improvement projects.

Alyssa Schaefer said the City of La Crosse is pledging $100,000 for the community’s effort, but they must also raise another $100,000. Right now, she said they’re in the early stages of that, and the 5K could go a long way to help boost the bottom line.

The event steps off Saturday, April 20 from 11 am to 1 pm at Myrick Park in La Crosse. Same day registration is available or you can register online ahead of the race.
