La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – A timely topic is the talk of an upcoming Community Conversation, which aims to tackle tough issues through civil, evidence-based dialogue. English Lutheran Church will host the lunchtime discussion on “Gun Violence Prevention” Wednesday, April 24.
Pastor Mark Solyst said gun violence is a significant public health burden in Wisconsin. He said suicides, homicides and accidents account for hundreds of deaths and injuries each year costing communities and taxpayers millions of dollars.
Dr. Stephen Hargarten of the Medical College of Wisconsin will be the featured speaker. Solyst said Dr. Hargarten will discuss the “injury science” of the issue.
Solyst recommends registering for the free event at the website interfaithleaders.org. This final Community Conversation of the season runs from 12 to 1 on April 24. A free will donation will be accepted to help with the cost of providing lunch. Those who wish to eat should arrive a little before noon.
