(WKOW) — A dog severely abused in Iraq is now getting the help she needs in Wisconsin.

The Pewaukee nonprofit Operation Bring Animals Home recently brought Lucky the dog to Wisconsin.

Veterinarians say Lucky had horrific injuries that were so bad one of her front legs had to be amputated on Friday.

Now, she’s recovering in Kewaskum at the home of Liz and Frank Rhode.

“She fit right in. She did. She came in the house and within two hours she was wrestling around playing with the other dogs,” Frank Rhode said.

Lucky still has a long recovery ahead. She needs more medical care and a forever home.
