West Salem, WI (WXOW) – As summer winds down, parents and kids might be trying to squeeze in a little more “staycation” time. A local camp with national outreach wants them to kick back for free in West Salem.

Kicking Bear brings its 17th annual summer camp to Maple Grove Venues on Friday and Saturday, August 2-3. No need to preregister, Justin Briski said any interested families can bring their kids by starting at 4 pm on Friday. The camp is completely free–including food and overnight camping. Those who stay the night, however, will need to bring their own camping supplies. Overnight camping is not required.

Featuring a giant slip and slide, archery, tomahawk throwing and an endurance course, plenty of activities will help kids get closer to the great outdoors close to home. Friday evening’s events culminate with a giant bonfire and fireworks after dark.

Headquartered in La Crosse, Kicking Bear provides nationwide youth outreach through faith-based outdoor programs year round. They encourage families to reach outside their homes and become mentors to try to strengthen communities and kids’ futures.
